The simple version
Disposables cost more per puff but nothing to start. Refillables cost more to start and much less per puff. The question is only how long you plan to keep vaping.
The numbers
Take two products we actually sell:
- Elf Bar 600 V2 — €6.90, roughly 600 puffs. That is about €0.0115 per puff.
- Uwell Caliburn G3 kit — €24.90, and a 10 ml nicotine salt at 20 mg costs about €5.50. A 10 ml bottle is roughly 3,000–3,500 puffs of normal use, so refilling costs around €0.0017 per puff.
The refillable route is nearly seven times cheaper per puff. But you pay €24.90 before the first puff.
Break-even
Six disposables is €41.40 and gives you about 3,600 puffs — roughly the same as one bottle through a refillable kit, which costs €30.40 including the device. So the crossover is around five to six devices. Vape less than that in total and disposables are cheaper and simpler. Vape more and the kit pays for itself within a month.
Where disposables still win
- No maintenance. No filling, no coil changes, no leaks to learn about.
- No commitment. Buy one, try a flavour, move on.
- Travel and handover. Easier to carry spares and to give away.
Where refillables win
- Cost. The gap widens every month you keep vaping.
- Choice. One device, dozens of liquids, in 10 mg or 20 mg.
- Battery. USB-C charging instead of throwing the battery away with the pod.
A note on the bans
Several EU countries have restricted or banned single-use vapes. Refillable pod systems and bottled e-liquid are not affected by those bans, which is one more reason a kit is the safer long-term buy.
Our recommendation
If you smoke ten or more cigarettes a day and are switching, start with a pod kit and a 20 mg salt. If you vape a few times a week, or you want something in a bag for emergencies, buy disposables.
